Abundance & Beauty

SOLD!

Beautiful koi fish swim through sparkling blue waters surrounded by lily pads, a single lotus flower and foliage in this fine art painting. Inspired by the beauty found at Sierra Water Gardens in Reno, this is the second painting in my series about abundance and beauty which the koi and water gardens symbolize. Embracing the spiritual and the good energy I felt when I was there, I allowed that joyous feeling out and into this painting through the act of painting it.

This mixed media acrylic painting on panel has my handpainted paper border which is reminiscent of the patterns in nature. The colors used in the paper range from neutral warm yellow ochres, soft browns, creamy off whites with metallic over layers of gold, silver and copper. It reminds me of the way river rocks and stones sparkle with mica and the way reflections and ripples move across water in an abstract way. Between the paper border and the center painting is a thin irregular line of red which enhances the painting and vibrates, signifying the life force.

I began the underpainting with a heavy impasto textured base. Multiple layers of acrylics were built up on the surface using both heavy impasto with a palette knife and energetic brushstrokes along with glazes. Interference colors were also added to this painting which impart a unique, lovely quality as the light shimmers. Deep blues, emerald greens, turquoise, solar yellows and tangerine orange are the dominant hues in this beautiful painting.

This original painting has been sold through the Pacific Crest Gallery in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Please contact me about a similar special commission created just for you.
